Tentative Plans for Commemorating the LCWR Jubilee
Regionally
The following is a list of the tentative plans of some
of the LCWR regions for commemorating the LCWR jubilee.
Region 2 (
The region is planning events
to coincide with its fall and spring gatherings along the theme of the
“prophetic call,” an aspect of religious life that they are trying to
understand, reclaim and share with their various publics.
Region 4 (Western Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland,
South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, DC)
At the fall and spring meetings, membership will invite sisters, lay person,
clergy,
and bishops for an afternoon. The program might feature a speaker and include a
worship service followed by social and/or dinner.
The region has also found a
writer to create a story for distribution to diocesan and city newspapers that
will feature the many ways women religious of the region respond to current
issues.
Region 5 (
The region is hosting
a day for religious on October 29, 2005 where Sandra Schneiders, IHM will speak on “Religious
Life as a Prophetic Lifeform.” They will
also be displaying works of the sisters in the region at this meeting.
Region 6 (
A prayer service is being
prepared and will be made available to all members of the region. Some
sub-regions will celebrate this prayer by inviting women’s groups and peace and
justice organizations to join them. Another sub-region is planning a public
witness event with the prayer in conjunction with the Giving Voice National
Assembly from July 28-30, 2005. Plans are being developed for the production of
a 30-minute video telling the story of the contribution of women religious in
the development of northwest
Region 9 (
The
region is planning three actions during the LCWR jubilee year: a commemorative
concert given by a Milwaukee-area symphony orchestra in spring 2006, a
heritage dinner to which all current and past members will be invited, and a
monetary donation to be given to a group involved in anti-trafficking efforts.
Region 10 (
The region is planning an
event on March 26, 2006 entitled “Celebrating Sisterhood.” The gathering will
be an opportunity to remember the lives and years of service women religious
have given to schools, hospitals and social systems, and to partnerships and
collaborative ministries, as well as tell stories and have fun. Invitees will
include the region’s members, past LCWR regional chairs, and a limited number
of sisters from congregations belonging to LCWR and some women from the
sponsored ministries of the members.
Region 11 (
The
region will circulate a prayer card in parishes and places of ministry noting the
jubilee, but focused on consecrated life. As a more long-term
commitment, the region is exploring the development of a leadership mentoring
process for newer/younger members in religious communities. It will
begin with a spring 2006 gathering of leaders and newer members, who
together will explore issues/concerns, necessary resources, etc. for the
development and nurturing of future leaders of religious communities.
Region 12 (
Region 12 will host three
regional gatherings to celebrate the jubilee with sisters in different geographic
areas. The gatherings will include prayer, education on LCWR, and
celebration. The region is also looking into developing a prayer card for
the celebration and naming the sisters in each congregation that have supported
LCWR during these 50 years.
Region 13 (
The
region has created a map of the world that shows all of the places where its
members have missions – “Where in the World is Region 13?” The region will invite younger members and
former leaders to join in the regions gatherings during the jubilee year.
Region 14 (
The region is
planning a celebration that will include a jubilee ritual as well as a
prophetic speaker on the future of religious life. The region has committed
itself to work against human trafficking as part of its jubilee commitment.
Region 15 (
The region is planning
regional gatherings in three locations which will include a celebration of
local LCWR leadership and the contribution women religious throughout the
region. The spring and fall regions will include a day-long retreat as a way to
celebrate and support one another in the ministry of leadership. The region is
collaborating with the Archdiocese of Seattle which is celebrating 150 years of
Catholic education, including the role and contribution of women religious.
